Messi set to travel to Peru and could be a starter for Argentina
According to the Argentine outlet ‘Olé’, Messi trained normally this Sunday and aims to make the trip to Peru for the CONMEBOL 2026 World Cup qualifying match.
Argentina face Peru next Tuesday in the fourth matchday of the CONMEBOL 2026 World Cup qualifiers and as things stand, everything points to Lionel Messi possibly making a return to the ‘albiceleste’ starting lineup after the Inter Miami captain trained normally at the AFA Ezeiza training centre.
Despite appearing with the World Cup winners in Thursday’s match against Paraguay for more than 30 minutes, where he was close to scoring, Messi is still a doubt for the match in Lima against Peru, where Scaloni’s men look to maintain their 100% record in the CONMEBOL qualifiers.
On Sunday, Argentine outlet ‘Olé’ were confident that Messi will be in the plane to Peru and went even so far as to suggest that the Rosario born striker may even make Lionel Scaloni’s starting line-up.
Messi trains with no issues
Messi seems to have shaken off the muscle problems that ruled him out of the game in Bolivia and which which also meant that he was absent for three games with Inter Miami as the Herons laboured without their talismanic captain.
Argentina will train again at the Buenos Aires camp on Monday before departing to Lima later on the same day with the game set to be held in the 43,000 capacity Estadio Nacional.
