Although results on the pitch haven’t been as good as hoped, Mexico at least managed to swell their coffers with their recent MexTour 2022 send-off matches in the United States. The two friendlies, against Peru and Colombia, left receipts of approximately 31 million dollars.

The first match of the tour, against Peru at Pasadena’s Rose Bowl on 24 September drew an official attendance of 62,729 spectators, who paid an average of 175 dollars per ticket. Three days later, in Santa Clara, the audience figures increased: 67,311 people attended Levi’s Stadium, with tickets costing an average of $304. A total of $10,977,575 went into the cash box just for the Peru game and a further $20,462,544 for the Colombia match. That brought the total income to approximately 31,440,119 dollars, based on the average price of the tickets.

The United States has been the preferred destination for Mexico during Gerardo Martino’s era as coach. Since he took the post in 2019, El Tri has played 34 games in North America, just 12 in Mexico and 15 in other countries. Of the dozen that have been held on home turf, 10 were official matches - seven World Cup qualifiers and three in the CONCACAF Nations League.
