Mexico confirm four friendly games in the US for September and October
‘El Tri’ will play in Arlington, Atlanta, Philadelphia and a to be confirmed city as part of the 2023 ‘Mex Tour’ anniversary.
After Sunday’s Gold Cup title win, the Mexican FA have confirmed the next games for ‘El Tri’ with four matches scheduled during the September and October FIFA windows.
All four games will be played in the United States with Germany the highest profile of the four opponents as ‘Die Mannscahft’ travel to Philadelphia on 17 October as part of El Tri’s twentieth anniversary of the MexTour.
The four Mexico games form part of the twentieth anniversary of the MexTour in the USA with Mexico also set to face Australia, Uzbekistan and Ghana.
The first game of this series will take place at AT&T Stadium (Arlington, Texas) on 9 September when Mexico face Australia. Three days later, on 12 September, for the first time in history, the Mexican national team will go head-to-head with Uzbekistan in Atlanta, one of the 2026 World Cup venues.
A month later in October, El Tri return to the United States to play against Ghana on 14 October 14, with no venue for the game locked in and the final test of the quartet comes on 17 October when they meet Germany at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
Mexico hopes to name full-time coach soon
As things stand, it’s still unclear who will be the manager on the bench for this series of matches with Jaime Lozano’s internship officially ending after the Gold Cup final. Upon his arrival in Mexico City, Ivar Sisniega, President of the FMF, revealed that in a maximum of three weeks they hope to announce the new national team coach with Lozano the main candidate although other more options will be evaluated.
