Mexico defender Julián Araujo set for move from FC Barcelona
The 21-year-old Mexican defender has only played two friendly matches for Xavi’s side.
Barcelona defender Julián Araujo is set for a loan move to newly promoted La Liga side Las Palmas, according to journalist Matteo Moretto of Relevo.
Xavi Hernández has decided that the Mexican right-back is not part of his plans for the upcoming season and the option of Las Palmas has emerged.
Las Palmas boss García Pimienta previously coached Barça B before taking charge of the Canaries, and Araujo gets on well with the 48-year-old coach.
The two clubs are currently negotiating a loan deal for the defender to move to Gran Canaria and an agreement could be reached in the next few days.
Former LA Galaxy player
Barça signed Araujo in the winter transfer window from LA Galaxy, however, he has yet to make his official first-team debut.
The 21-year-old, who has only played two friendly matches for Xavi’s side, is currently on international duty with the Mexico national team at the Gold Cup.
Interested in Fresneda
Barcelona are working on signing a new right-back, with Real Valladolid’s highly-rated defender Iván Fresneda amongst the possible options. The club’s sporting director, Deco, has met with the 18-year-old’s representatives over a move to the Catalan club.
