Mexico and the United States have been working alongside each other for some time now and the partnership grew stronger when Major League Soccer and the Liga MX started working together. This season both leagues confirmed for a second consecutive year that the MLS All-Star game will continue to be played with the best players from each league.

Both countries will also host the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside Canada and they want to keep their partnership going for the biggest events in soccer. According to the president of the Mexican soccer Federation, Yon De Luisa, they will try to present a similar plan to make a bid to host the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup with the United States.

Mexico and the US could host back-to-back World Cups

It is too early to say how many games each country would host in the Women’s World Cup because there will be 32 teams, compared to 48 in the men’s tournament. So it will be no surprise if FIFA decides to do a similar plan,” said De Luisa.

One of the requirements for FIFA to host a World Cup is that the stadiums that are proposed have a complete training facility and that is why the United States will host the majority of games in the Men’s World Cup in 2026. So Mexico has to work on its venues to be able to host more games in the near future.

At the same time Cindy Parlow Cone, president of US Soccer, said that the United States plans to host the 2031 World Cup as well. “We definitely plan on bidding,” Cone said. “Bidding hasn’t even opened up yet.
