Mexico started their training camp ahead of the World Cup
Several players that will be included in the final roster that will travel to Qatar have started to train under manager Gerardo Martino in Mexico City.
The 2022 FIFA World Cup is less than 30 days away and the Mexico national team has started to prepare for the tournament ahead of time. On Tuesday, Alexis Vegas (Chivas), Raúl Jiménez (Wolverhampton), Héctor Herrera (Houston Dynamo), Rodolfo Cota (Club León) and Alfredo Talavera (Juárez) have started the training camp in Mexico City under head coach Gerardo Martino.
In the upcoming days Roberto Alvarado from Chivas will join the rest of the players that are expected to be included in the final roster that will travel to Qatar next month. The Mexico national team also informed that in the upcoming days more players from Liga MX will be joining the training camp as the tournament is coming to an end with Club América, Pachuca, Monterrey and Toluca participating in the semifinals.
While the player from Europe’s top tier will join the rest of the team in Spain one week before the start of the World Cup. The Mexican national team will play two friendlies in Europe before traveling to Qatar. The first one will be against Iraq at Montilivi stadium on 9 November and seven days later against Sweden.
Raúl Jiménez is not fit
The Wolverhampton striker arrived at Mexico last week to continue with his recovery from his groin injury and Martino said last month that he will wait for him until the last minute. Raúl Jiménez has not played since 31 August when he played the full 90 minutes in the 0-0 draw against Bournemouth on matchday 5 of the Premier League.
Sources from AS USA, have confirmed that Raúl Jiménez will most likely not reach full fitness in time and he will not participate in the upcoming FIFA World Cup. The 31-year-old striker has a lot of trouble walking and he has missed a total of eight games with club and country since suffering his groin injury.
