Mexico U23 squad for Central American & Caribbean Games

The young stars of El Tri will soon be in action in San Salvador for the multi-sport event.

The 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games begins later this week in San Salvador, El Salvador.

The two-week competition will see more than 5,000 athletes from 37 nations compete in 38 different sports. One of the most closely-watched will be the football competition, the 22nd edition of the tournament at the games.

In preparation for the first fixture on 28 June, the Mexican Under-23 team has been announced.

Included in the 20-man squad are 15 players drawn from Liga MX. Those players are from Atlético de San Luis, Atlas, Cruz Azul, León, Toluca, Tijuana, Juárez, Guadalajara, Querétaro and Necaxa.

Another four players come from Liga de Expansión; three from reigning champions Tapatío one from Deer. Further afield, Sporting de Gijón’s Jordan Carrillo is also in Gerardo Espinoza’s squad.

Mexico have been drawn in Group A, along with hosts El Salvador and the Dominican Republic.

Group B is made up of Honduras, Costa Rica, Guatemala and Jamaica. The soccer tournament will begin on Wednesday, 28 June and end on Wednesday, 5 July.

The Mexican team will leave for El Salvador on Saturday, 24 July.
