The United States go into the final match of group stages with their mission accomplished. While winning the CONCACAF W Championship is high on the priority list, nothing tops qualification to World Cup 2023.

USA cruising through the competition

Head coach Vlatko Andonovski’s side were always favorites to advance through the group stages and earn a birth to next year’s World Cup in New Zealand and Australia. They have done so with ease, and now can focus on winning the tournament at hand.

In two games they have a goal differential of +8, after taking down Haiti 3-0 on Independence Day in the opener and then smashing Jamaica 5-0 last Thursday. Alex Morgan had a brace against the Haitians, while Sophia Smith had a first half brace in eight minutes against the Reggae Girlz of Jamaica.

The hosts, Mexico, have had a rough go of it on their home soil. They lost to Jamaica 1-0 in the opener, and their chances to advance past the group stages were ended when they lost to Haiti 3-0.

Mexico hoping for some consolation

Mexico will just be looking to score a goal in their final match day of the competition while the USWNT look to close out the group stages in style, while perhaps getting some of their youngsters a bit more time on the pitch.

The winner of Group A, USA, will take on the second place team in Group B in the semifinal of the CONCACAF W Championship which will either be Canada or Costa Rica.
