Miguel Herrera puts his name forward to coach ‘El Tri’ team again
The veteran coach is looking for a second chance to look after ‘El Tri’ with Mexico set to co-host the 2026 2026 World Cup.
Miguel Herrera has come forward in the quest for a new head coach for the Mexican national team with ‘El ‘Piojo’ still a free agent being fired from Tigres. Mexico will co-host the 2026 World Cup along with Canada and the USA.
In an interview with TUDN, Herrera once again opened the door to the national team and assured that he is the best ranked coach of those who have been on the ‘El Tri’ bench since the 1978 World Cup. “I am very happy for what I have done and today we can say that I am running for office because there is no coach with the national team but I know I’m not the only candidate”.
“When I was coach, I delivered the results that they asked me for and just like everyone else we were eliminated in Round of 16″ he added.
MLS, Saudi Arabia and Qatar have knocked on Herrera’s door
Herrera claims he has been showered with international offers but maintains that his priority is to oversee the national team again and and if he is not the chosen one, then only then will he’ll analyze the proposals that have been forthcoming.
“Offers have come from abroad with clubs in Qatar and Arabia interested, but I continue to maintain that I will wait for this selection process. There are also people in MLS who are talking to me, my phone is ringing and yes I have answered them, but at this moment it is a question of waiting and seeing if the possibility of being in the head coach for Mexico comes about as that is what inspires me”, he concluded.
