MLS and Liga MX set for All-Star Game this summer
Reports suggest that the two North American leagues will battle it out in a one-off game in Columbus Ohio.
The MLS All-Star Game is an annual tradition that brings together the best players in the league to take on overseas opposition.
Between 2005 and 2019 the MLS Select XI would face a major European team in the middle of their preseason preparation. The likes of Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Manchester United all travelled to the US to take on the All-Stars.
However in 2021 and 2022 the MLS team played against the Liga MX All-Stars, the best players in the top flight of Mexican soccer. After dropping the idea to take on Premier League side Arsenal in 2023, the MLS-MX All-Star Game is reportedly back this year.
Journalist Lizzy Becherano reports that the MLS All-Stars will take on a team of Liga MX stars in Columbus, Ohio this summer. The date for the fixture was updated to July 24.
As 2023 MLS Cup winners, the Columbus Crew will host the 2024 All-Star Game at Lower.com Field.
How to buy tickets for the MLS All-Star Game
Official details for the 2024 MLS All-Star Game have not yet been released but there is a sneaky way to bag priority access to the tickets. Columbus is hosting the All-Star Game for the first time since 2005 and the demand for tickets in a soccer-mad city will be intense.
The Crew are offering priority access to All-Star tickets for their season ticket holders. If you want to get ahead of the crowds, sign up for a Columbus Crew season ticket and register for priority access on Columbus Crew’s All-Star Game page.
If this seems a bit excessive, you can always wait for the tickets to hit general sale. Purchase details have not been made public.
The Crew announced that Columbus would host the 2024 MLS All-Star Game with a statement on the club website: “The Crew remain humble and embody hard work because that is the spirit of who we are an that of our shared community, but we are also confident Columbus can deliver the best All-Star Game in MLS history, one that will make a lasting impact on our city, our region and the beautiful game.”
