MLS Cup: Carlos Vela talks about journey with LAFC

Since arriving to MLS five years ago, LAFC captain Carlos Vela has been dreaming of winning the MLS Cup, and he is just one step away.

Update:

Carlos Vela joined the MLS five years ago when the team was founded, landing in Los Angeles and feeling confused about why there was nothing around. Over time, he and the LAFC team built something incredible, and today, they are heading to the MLS Cup final to play against Philadelphia Union on Saturday.

“Since the first day, I said I will work really hard,” said Vela. “I will do my best to bring trophies to this club.”

LAFC got here by defeating Austin as well as LA Galaxy and fellow Mexican player Javier “Chicharito” Hernández. They have been denied the title before, but this Saturday, they’ll have the chance to win the MLS championship against the best team in the East. It would be the first title for the young team.

“I think we really created something special, not only because we are playing well or because we are in the final, but we created something around the city,” said Vela. “I think people feel connected with us, people enjoy every single time we play in the Banc. Our fans make a party every single game we play there. So I think everybody deserves something good, and I think Saturday is a chance to really get something good, something like we dream when we came here the first day.”
