LAFC vs Philadelphia preview

The ‘black and gold’ made it to their first MLS Cup Final after comfortably beating Austin FC 3-0 at the Banc of California stadium. Goals from Arango and Okopu came either side of an Urruti own goal to seal the win and the 22 shots that the home side had paint a very clear picture of just how much of a disappointing day it was for Austin FC. Chiellini marshalled their back line and brought a much-valued sense of experience and calm to LAFC’s game. At the other end, Arango and Vela were twisting and turning like figure-skaters, winding around Austin’s defence and repeatedly creating scoring chances for each other.

Jim Curtin’s Philadelphia side equalled the best ever MLS home stadium winning run on Sunday with their 11th straight win, a 3-1 victory over NYCFC at Subaru Park. Moralez’s smooth finish capped off an excellent team goal from NYCFC before three goals in 11 minutes from Carranza, Gazdag and Burke smashed the shellshocked side to pieces to complete the comeback.

Previous LAFC vs Philadelphia meetings

  • LAFC 2-2 Philadelphia (8 May 2022)
  • LAFC 3-3 Philadelphia (9 March 2020)
  • LAFC 1-1 Philadelphia (15 September 2019)

As we can see from these past scores, the two sides definitely have a taste for goals when they come up against one another.
