MLS goal explosion across 14 matches
A total of 14 matches were played on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, and not a single game finished scoreless. While most fixtures delivered a steady stream of goals, only Charlotte FC’s meeting with New York City FC and Minnesota United’s clash with the Colorado Rapids ended with just one goal separating the sides.
Everywhere else, defenses were overwhelmed as MLS entered one of its most explosive attacking days on record.
Inter Miami and Messi headline the chaos in Cincinnati
The standout match of the day came in Cincinnati, where Inter Miami defeated FC Cincinnati 5-3 in a thriller that produced eight total goals, the highest single-match tally of the entire slate.
Lionel Messi scored twice, once again proving decisive in a match that embodied the league-wide scoring surge.
A new MLS benchmark
The previous record for goals in a single MLS matchday stood at 57 goals, set in 2025 across 15 matches. That mark has now been surpassed.
