Mohamed Salah injury update: Will he play against Brentford?
The Egyptian forward has been out injured since picking up a hamstring injury in his nation’s ill-fated Africa Cup of Nations campaign.
Liverpool’s mid-season injury crisis is finally starting to clear as the team continue their assault on four competitions this season.
Jurgen Klopp has been without talismanic forward Mohamed Salah since New Year’s Day. The Egyptian flew off to the Africa Cup of Nations in early January and picked up a hamstring injury in just the second game.
Salah returned to Liverpool to begin his rehabilitation work but has not yet been fit enough to feature for the team. That, Klopp suggested on Friday, is about to change.
“Mo’s back in full training. That brings him automatically back in contention of course.”
Liverpool will be delighted to have Salah back in the matchday squad for Saturday’s trip to Brentford. The 31-year-old has enjoyed another fine goal-scoring season with Liverpool, hitting 14 goals in 20 Premier League appearances to date.
Will Trent Alexander-Arnold play for Liverpool against Brentford?
While Salah’s return is good news for Liverpool fans, Klopp will be without another key player this weekend. Trent Alexander-Arnold has suffered a reoccurrence of the knee injury that kept him out earlier this year.
Klopp confirmed that the Englishman will not be able to play against Brentford and could be out until after the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea. However he insisted Alexander-Arnold’s setback was not the result of being pushed back to the team too soon.
“As long as I’m here we never forced anyone back,” Klopp said of Alexander-Arnold’s injury travails. “We always try to catch at the earliest moment. Unfortunately, when we catch that, nobody speaks about it. When they play, they were fit.”
There was also good news for Reds fans as Klopp confirmed Conor Bradley, Joe Gomez and Alisson Becker are all able to return. Ibrahima Konate’s has served his suspension and is available for selection .
