Update:

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has confirmed that he will leave the club at the end of the 2025/26 season, calling time on a trophy-laden career at Anfield. The 33-year-old announced the news in a social media post on Tuesday night, describing this as his “farewell” season.

Salah joined the club in 2017, while the team was ascending under the guidance of head coach Jurgen Klopp. The Egyptian was a key part of the team that established itself as one of the world’s best, picking up two Premier League titles and a Champions League winner’s medal during his time on Merseyside.

What next for Mohamed Salah?

Despite his advancing age, there will be no shortage of suitors for Mohamed Salah. Lasty season he was crowned Premier League Player of the Year and won the Golden Boot as Liverpool cruised to the title, putting together one of the finest individual seasons seen in the Premier League. His wages demands will be high, but there are still options for the 33-year-old.

Around Europe there will be a number of elite teams tempted by a move for Salah. In Italy the likes of Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan have shown a fondness for poaching Premier League player in recent years, although they would not be able to get close to Salah’s current contract terms. In Spain neither Barcelona or Real Madrid seem likely to move for Salah, but Atlético Madrid could swoop in if a compromise could be found on contract. Atleti have previously brought in the likes of David Villa and Luis Suarez after they were let go by Barcelona.

Outside of Europe, the Saudi Pro League is believed to be keen on bringing in Salah. The money is unlikely to be a problem and Salah would be able to move closer to his homeland of Egypt. There have also been links with MLS, particularly the Egyptian-owned San Diego FC. In the US the salary demands would be more of an issue but San Diego are hoping to clear the $6 million annual salary of Hirving ‘Chucky’ Lozano, which could give them room for a massive offer to Salah.
