Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah will miss Egypt’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia on Thursday after picking up a strain.

Salah featured in Egypt’s 1-0 win over Guinea on Sunday but has since undergone scans to reveal the injury.

The Pharaohs are currently second in Group D of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after their first game.

The Egyptian FA’s statement read: “The technical staff of the Egyptian national football team, led by manager Ehab Galal, have decided to rest Mohamed Salah for the Ethiopia match scheduled for June 9 of this month after he underwent scans that proved the presence of a slight strain.”

Premier League top scorer

Salah finished the 2021/22 Premier League season as the joint-top scorer along with Tottenham forward Son Heung-min.

Liverpool won the FA Cup and Carabao Cup with the help of the 29-year-old.
