Mohamed Salah’s incredible record against Manchester City

The Egyptian scored his 11th goal against City and will be desperate to add to that tally against Pep Guardiola’s side.

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah opened the scoring against Manchester City on Saturday, firing past Ederson on the 16th-minute at the Etihad Stadium.

The Egyptian continued his fine record against City, scoring his 11th goal in just 19 appearances against the Sky Blues. He has also notched five assists across those fixtures.

With 11 goals against Manchester City they are now the team to have conceded the second-most goals to Salah. Leading that list is City’s neighbours, Manchester United, against whom the Egyptian scored a hat trick last month. He has scored 12 times in as many matches against the Red Devils.

It has not been a great season by Salah’s astonishing standards, but he continues to perform against the best sides in the Premier League. He has now scored in four separate fixtures against City this season.

Liverpool have thrived in big games this year

The Merseyside club came into this weekend’s game down in sixth position, needing to overhaul a seven-point gap to the Champions League places.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have struggled for consistency this season but they have performed well against the top sides, wining more points against the top six than any other Premier League club.

Liverpool boast the best head-to-head record in matches between the Premier League’s current top six. Ahead of this weekend’s trip to the Etihad Stadium, Klopp’s side had picked up 15 points from seven games, recording five wins and two defeats.

“The main reason is we didn’t play good enough against others,” Klopp said. “When things are going well, you finish your situations. In general, if you don’t score, you have to try harder.”
