Sevilla FC clinched their seventh Europa League/UEFA Cup win on Wednesday night edging out Serie A side AS Roma in a dramatic penalty shoot-out after the game ended 1-1 after extra time.

The ‘Giallorossi’ boss Jose Mourinho was incensed after the game and speaking to Spanish broadcaster Movistar+ and Italian counterparts Sky Italia after the game, he revealed his outrage that the Spaniards hadn’t been reduced to 10 men.

“We’re going home dead because of an injustice. I thought the referee was Spanish, there were so many yellow cards. Then he should’ve shown Lamela a second yellow card, which he didn’t. And he scored one of the penalties in the shootout. It’s an injustice”.

Carpark rant

Mourinho’s ire didn’t end in the post match press responsibilities as he made for the carpark at the stadium in Budapest with footage later emerging of the Portuguese coach approaching the match officials in the Puskás Aréna car park, where he let them know what he really thought of their performance using a series of expletives in both English and Italian. “F*cking disgrace” and “f*cking farce” were captured on camera.

UEFA respond

The UEFA Disciplinary Board met on Friday and outlined the various charges aimed at both clubs following Wednesday night’s volatile final.

Sevilla were hit with four charges: invasion of the field of play, throwing of objects, lighting of fireworks and Improper conduct of team.

Roma had five charges levelled: throwing of objects, lighting of fireworks, acts of damage, crowd disturbances and improper conduct of team.
