Mouse poo adds to Manchester United’s Premier League problems
Not only are The Red Devils struggling on the field, but pest controllers have become regular visitors to Old Trafford in recent weeks.
Manchester United aren’t having the best time of it at the moment, despite Rúben Amorim’s arrival as head coach and last weekend’s victory over Manchester City. The Red Devils were beaten 3-0 by Bournemouth on Sunday, a result that leaves them 13th in the Premier League table, 17 points behind leaders Liverpool. And now they can add mouse poo to their problems.
According to British media outlet Daily Mail, hygiene inspectors discovered mouse droppings in corporate suites and in a food kiosk on a recent visit to Old Trafford.
That has seen the stadium’s hygiene rating drop from four stars (out of five) to just two; most Premier League clubs have a five-star hygiene rating. Another area in which United are falling behind.
As a result, pest controllers are said to be visiting Old Trafford four to five times per week to combat the issue, which the club believes stems from the stadium’s proximity to the Bridgewater Canal and a railway line.
Iconic Old Trafford’s lack of investment
Old Trafford is one of the most iconic stadiums in England and beyond, having hosted games at the 1966 World Cup and the 1996 European Championship, as well as the 2003 Champions League final.
However, the Glazer family, United’s owners, have received criticism for their lack of investment in the stadium in recent years. Videos on social media have shown significant leaks in the roof, with Amorim’s press conference after the defeat to Bournemouth was interrupted by water dripping from the ceiling in the media room.
Despite being the biggest club stadium in England in terms of capacity, Old Trafford was not included in the list of venues for the 2028 European Championship, which will be held in England, Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland.
