During the past few days, his name has been mentioned once again as a candidate to become Mexico’s new coach. Some of the rumours go as far as claiming that his club, Toluca, have already given him permission to negotiate. However, Ignacio Ambriz insists that as of the moment, he has not spoken to anyone from the FMF and assures that he is not distracted by what is being said in the media.

“No, I don’t get distracted by these things and thankfully, I am able to sleep peacefully. I know the commitment I have with Toluca. Every week I prepare the team to win, although there are times when we are not around. I could not have imagined that I would lose Carlos and Camilo. Today we put in a good game, but hey, if you are distracted, that’s not good. I haven’t talked to anyone, I’m calm. My name has been mentioned by you, the press, but the truth is that I am completely calm,” Ambriz explained.

Ambriz analyzed the progress of his team, which remains unbeaten after Wednesday’s 0-0 draw with Atlas - the third draw in four games. With just one win so far this season, against Chivas, the coach believes his side have some improving to do after the first few weeks of the Clausura 2023.

“Not winning always means that the team is not doing well, it makes it seem as though they are not doing a good job. Today, Carlos and Sanvezzo were unavailable through injury. We played differently, it’s true that we had scoring chances, but we didn’t take them. The team continued to make an effort, and really battled hard, but it’s not not happening for us right now. It’s worrying when you have drawn three games, and not even been able to score in two of them. We have to keep working and prepare for Sunday’s game with Monterrey, which will be difficult. I hope to have Carlos or Camilo back fit again, that will give us an alternative way to play,“ he said.

We could have taken the lead in the first half; during the second half it was end-to-end. Atlas play a very direct style of football, they attack you very quickly and they also had chances. The second half was more even and we weren’t good at taking the chances we created. I don’t take anything way from Atlas, who played a good game, neither of us could score, but I would stress that the team is trying, it’s fighting and running. I can hear them talking among themselves about it in the locker room. They know that the way forward is to improve and that each one of them has to show attitude and the desire to get ahead”, Ambriz concluded.
