GRAHAM POTTER

NEW BOSS AT THE BRIDGE

After Thomas Tuchel's sacking, Potter is the new man in charge at Chelsea

“Chelsea Football Club part ways with Thomas Tuchel.” In a statement on 7 September, the Blues revealed they had sacked the German coach.

Coming just seven games into their season - six in the Premier League, one in the Champions League - Chelsea’s announcement was a surprise.

That said, they had collected just 10 points out of 18 in the league, and had suffered an unexpected European defeat to Dinamo Zagreb.

A day after firing Tuchel, Chelsea confirmed the appointment of a new head coach charged with turning results around at Stamford Bridge.

After agreeing a five-year deal to take the helm in West London, Brighton boss Graham Potter became owner Todd Boehly’s first managerial hire.

After three excellent seasons on the south coast, the 47-year-old has swapped life in mid-table for one of the Premier League’s biggest jobs.

Following a summer in which Chelsea spent over £270 million - a world-record outlay during a single transfer window - the pressure is on.

At the end of May, American investor Boehly, whose net worth is estimated by Forbes at $5.3 billion, took over  as Chelsea’s new owner.

“The new owners believe it is the  right time to make this transition,” Chelsea said in their announcement  of Tuchel’s sacking.

“Thomas will rightly have a place in Chelsea’s history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup and Club World Cup in his time here."
