New Chivas coach Fernando Gago cancels Chivas’ pre-season games
The new Argentine head coach wants to impose his conditions and has decided to cancel the two friendly games that were lined up by the club prior to his arrival.
Chivas Guadalajara fell short in the 2023 Apertura season falling to Pumas UNAM in the quarterfinal and the club were rocked when Serbian coach Veljko Paunovic announced that he was packing his bags and leaving the Estadio Akron side.
The club wasted little time in drafting in Argentine Fernango Gago who had spells as a player with the likes of AS Roma and Real Madrid and the 37-year-old is already stamping his authority as the team prepares for the Clausura 2024.
Gago has decided to cancel the two friendly games that were lined up against second tier sides Leones Negros de la Universidad de Guadalajara and Atlético La Paz, both of which were agreed before his arrival at the Guadalajara club.
Gago is anxious to forge his own authority and It is keen to break the ties with the previous regime with these two pre-season games locked in when Serbian Veljko Paunovic was in charge.
CD Guadalajara will open their Liga MX Clausura 2024 campaign on 13 January as they face Santos Laguna and Gago’s men embark on their 2024 Concacaf Champions League adventure in February as they face Canadian side Forge.
