New San Diego MLS franchise to confirm name, logo and team colours
The new San Diego FC team will make their debut in Major League Soccer in the 2025 season.
The San Diego franchise will be the 30th team in MLS and the California based side will compete in the 2025 Major League Soccer campaign with the expected name of San Diego FC, as the owners of the organization are set to reveal the team logo and club colours on a launch event on Friday, October 20.
‘The Athletic’ announced a day ahead of the ‘name reveal’ that the new California team will use ‘Football Club’ as its official name, making it the eleventh MLS franchise to formally use the FC abbreviation.

The publication also claim that San Diego FC’s principal colours will be ‘chrome and blue’, and that the motto of the new club will be: “Gratitude, pride, no noise, diversity and a state of fluidity”. These values can be reflected in the 18 lines that form the center of the club logo — which forms a ball — as the 18 communities of San Diego County stand out.
In the meantime USL side San Diego Loyal are involved in the playoffs and having confirmed that the club will wind down at the end of the season, are looking to go out on a high as the Californian city makes the transition from a USL team to a new MLS project with the 2026 World Cup looming on the horizon.
