New Wimbledon shirt sparks huge demand among Boca Juniors fans
The similarity between the new kit of the English side with the classic Boca colours has created a wave of demand among ‘xeneizes’ fans.
There was unanimous praise when English lower league side AFC Wimbledon unveiled their new 2023/24 season home shirt with the Dons offering a new style variation on their classic blue and yellow colours
However, one place where the shirt has resonated more than others is Argentina with Boca Juniors fans flooding official AFC Wimbledon social networks to leave messages offering their admiration for the new Wimbledon shirt with the resemblance between the Boca Juniors jersey and new effort from the League Two side undeniable.
Marc Jones, a lifelong Wimbledon fan and kit designer who has designed some of the most popular Dons kits in recent years, said: “Each kit cycle there is a pull to look back at previous seasons and eras. I wanted to deviate away from that path so instead of travelling through our history I looked to other clubs who share our colours.
“It would be a bit of a stretch to suggest there are no other famous shirts that share a comparable style, but for those thinking only a famous South American side have worn similar I’d suggest a deeper dive. Especially nearer to home in Europe!
