Did you even notice? Just like that, with the blink of a bee’s eye, we are back. The clocks have stopped spinning backwards, the street lights aren’t flickering and the Premier League goodness is back. Well, of course, it never really goes away, and this time it is returning with a bang, crash and wallop. Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United will be looking to continue their impeccable post-World Cup form while Eddie Howe’s Newcastle will hope that the international break has served to stop the bleeding as the two sides take each other on at St James’ Park.

Both sides are fighting for the Champions League places alongside a Tottenham team that seem to be in meltdown, so this clash is potentially crucial for deciding which of the clubs get a head-start for the final stretch of the 2022/23 Premier League campaign.

Preview: Manchester United

Manchester United had stormed their way into making people believe the title challenge was a three horse race before City and Arsenal regained the ground they had made for themselves in the first half of the campaign. But the imperious form of the Red Devils has only one, albeit huge, black mark. Want to relive the 7-0 at Anfield? Apart from that they’ve been pretty much flawless. Except for Casemiro’s red card.

Preview: Newcastle United

Newcastle, for their part, have slipped to fifth but having only lost 3 games all season. The 11 draws will surely be eating at the back of their mind like a runaway worm in a box of apples, but Eddie Howe will surely have the confidence in his side to pull off a strong result at home against a Casemiro-less Manchester United.

They cant count on Alexander Isak, who has scored goals when he has had the time to play this season, and his brace against Nottingham Forest right before the International break will have Toon fans hoping he has used to time to recover so he can find his best form during the run-in.

Casemiro was in tears after being shown a red card by referee Anthony Taylor, but he deserved it.

Prediction time:

Newcastle will be fired up and hoping for a strong home result, especially knowing that Casemiro is banned for the away side. I reckon Bruno Guimarães will take advantage of his compatriot’s absence and score the only goal in a 1-0 win for Eddie Howe and his team.
