Update:

Neymar’s return has hit a hurdle after he was forced to withdraw from the Brazilian national team due to injury. The 33-year-old was set to make his first appearance for Brazil in 17 months in the upcoming FIFA international break.

The Brazilian star returned to former club Santos in January after an injury-struck spell in Saudi Arabia. He has began to recapture his previous form in Brazil and earnt himself a call-up, but has now picked up a muscle injury ahead of the internationals.

“The return seemed so close, but unfortunately I won’t be able to wear the most important jersey in the world for the moment,” Neymar wrote on Instagram.

“We had long conversations and everyone knows of my desire to return, but we agreed that it’s best not to take any risks and prepare as best as possible to completely eradicate the injury.”

Can Endrick replace Neymar?

With Neymar out, head coach Dorival Jr has called up Real Madrid youngster Endrick to take his place. Endrick is still only 18 has been a bit-part player for Real Madrid this season. However his international record is pretty good.

He made his senior debut against Colombia at the age of 17 years and 183 days and scored in a friendly against England a few months later, following that up with another against Spain at the Santiago Bernabeu. Nevertheless, he is not going to be the man to replace Neymar in Brazil’s starting XI with plenty of other attacking options.

Real Madrid pair Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo look certain to start, as does potential Ballon d’Or candidate Raphinha. Manchester City’s Savinho would be a livewire option for Dorival to consider, while Brighton’s João Pedro and 17-year-old starlet Estêvão Willian round out the attacking options.
