Nkunku to Chelsea: when will his signing be announced?
The RB Leipzig player is on his way to London and the huge move will be announced soon.
Chelsea continue their work to carve themselves into a functioning football team for 2023/24. Todd Boehly fixed his gaze on a head coach (eventually) and the formation/reinforcement of the squad is still underway and will continue over the coming weeks.
New head coach, Mauricio Pochettino, has a say in the decisions and the ‘no’ that answered the question of whether or not João Félix should carry on at the club also came from him. every single arrival and departure will have the Argentine’s stamp of approval and one of them is set to be announced in the next few days.
Chelsea signed Nkunku months ago
The signing of Christopher Nkunku (25-years-old) has been an open secret for a long while at Chelsea. It is expected that the London club will not take long to make public the deal for the Frenchman, as he passed his medical months ago in the English capital when The Blues agreed the terms of the deal.
The reason behind the lack of an official announcement is due to the fact that RB Leipzig reached the final of the German Cup, and a player departure ‘mid-season’ is never a good look and may have unsettled things at the club.
The club played against Eintracht Frankfurt in the DFB Pokal final, in which Nkunku opened the scoring in a 2-0 win. The player arrives at Chelsea as the joint-top scorer in the Bundesliga, an incredible feat when taking into account the fact that he was missing for half of the season through injury, one which also saw him miss the Qatar World Cup.
Where will Nkunku fit in at Chelsea?
The player will land in London and will be a huge boost to their attacking line, despite the fact that the club are hardly short of forward players. Nkunku can play as a false nine, a second striker and even a winger. There will be exits at Chelsea as they know that room is required for their French forward.
The other player that will be available for Pochettino on the first day of pre-season is Malo Gusto, a signing from Lyon whose deal was done in the 2023 winter window but remained at the French club until the end of the campaign.
