“No player is bigger than Flamengo”: reaction after Arturo Vidal fury

Arturo Vidal failed to secure playing time during the Carioca Championship game on Wednesday evening as ‘Flu’ won 1-0 against Boavista Sport Club and his anger and frustration have created tension within the Mengão camp ahead of their trip to Morocco to participate in the 2022 Club World Cup.

A video of Vidal’s reaction has gone viral after Flamengo boss Vitor Pereira had used his full quota of changes which meant the Chilean would play no role in the game. With no playing time forthcoming, the veteran threw both football boots in a fit of rage.

The Flamengo coach was asked about Vida’s reaction and stated: The discontent of one or the other player is something natural because we have to make decisions based on what we analyze and the idea we have of the players who can most help the team right now. We have to put the team and the club above all personal ambitions”, he said.

Flamengo player Everton Ribeiro added: “It was a surprise because Vidal is a key part of the squad and it was not the best time for this type of reaction because it can generate mistrust, but people know the player he is and I don’t see a big problem. Nobody is bigger than Flamengo and both (Pereira and Vidal) are always thinking about winning the championship.
