Not the food or the weather, this is Riccardo Calafiori biggest complaint about life in London

Making the switch from Italy to London comes with a bit of a culture shock but Riccardo Calafiori is fitting in with Arsenal despite this one major gripe.

Update:

He is one of the leading men Mikel Arteta´s side that currently occupy the top spot in the Premier League, and it seems like the adjustment to life in London has gone smoothly. Riccardo Calafiori has just one complaint about life as a Gunner in his second year at Arsenal.

Londoners “follow rules” too much

It has nothing to do with the food for the weather in the U.K., instead the Italian defender is a bit frustrated with the traffic situation in London. While many stars of the Premier League get snapped in their flashy mega cars, Calafiori won’t be seen exiting the driver seat of a speedy sports car, or a cozy SUVs any time soon. The former Bologna man won’t drive in London, stating that the locals may be bit a bit too law abiding.

“I don’t drive, but I get around with a driver. I prefer not to drive here. I don’t have a car, but I can drive,” the center back told the Supernova podcast. “I don’t like how they drive here. They follow the rules too much and are a bit slow. Sometimes you see these big traffic jams for no reason,” said the Calafiori.

The 23 year-old lives in Central London instead of on the outskirts of the city like many of his fellow footballers. To get to Arsenal’s training ground, he and his driver have to leave about an hour early to arrive at the facility before 9:15 a.m. “I live quite far away from my team-mates; nobody lives where I live. Most of them have families and kids and live in houses near the training ground,” he stated.

Arsenal eyeing history season

This is his second year with Arsenal after making the switch from Serie A to the Premier League. The Gunners shelled out €40 million in July of last year, but that deal had add ons that could have rocketed the final fee up to €54 million, and now the Italian is playing a big part in the push for major trophies in North London.

Calafiori grew up in the AS Roma academy and spent most of his three seasons on the bench in Serie A with the Roman side before a loan to Genoa. He spent a year Basel in Switzerland and then was transferred to Bologna where he had his breakout year that drew the attention of the biggest clubs in Europe.

He settled at the Emirates and now is a vital part of Mikel Arteta´s back line that is a big part in their potential treble run. They are leading the Premier League, topped the table in the league phase of the Champions League and they are in the Fifth Round of the FA Cup. Calafiori suffered an injury at the end of December that kept him out until late January, but he figures to be a key figure in the three title pushes.
