Notts County owners ‘shake off’ Taylor Swift purchase rumours
Current owners of the Nottingham based League Two football club, Chris and Alex Reedtz issued a statement via Twitter playing down rumours of a sale.
Potentially following the footsteps of Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, who bought Wrexham AFC in 2020 and more recently Tom Brady who became a shareholder with Birmingham City, rumours suggested that Taylor Swift was the latest high profile American to buy into lower league English football with the singer linked with a possible purchase of Notts County. The Nottingham based League Two are the world’s oldest professional soccer club, denied rumours that singer Swift was buying the club.
The League Two club responded with a witty post, in which they paraphrased Swift’s songs “Shake It Off”, “Blank Space”, “Bad Blood”, “Style” and Love Story, to a British tabloid’s front page rumours that the singer was interested in buying the club.
“As sorry as we are to disappoint the Swifties in our fanbase, we’re going to have to shake this story off. There’s certainly no bad blood between ourselves and Taylor but at such an exciting time for us and the club, she surely couldn’t have believed in her wildest dreams that we would relinquish our control.
“We’ll leave a blank space in tomorrow’s pre-match playlist for a track from her newly re-released 1989 album as a gesture of gratitude for her interest.” Notts County said in a statement.
Notts County’s relationship with music doesn’t end there, as singer Jake Bugg has sponsored the away kit for the past five years and the Magpies face Wrexham this weekend in a game which will rekindle the battles both sides waged as they looked to secure promotion from the Conference to the football league. The Red Dragons secured a fast track with a league win and County progressed via the playoff system.
