Ochoa and Salernitana continue on their winless run in Italy’s Serie A
A draw with Udinese sentences Guillermo Ochoa and Salernitana to yet another date on the domestic calendar without a win.
Salernitana have still not won a game in Serie A since December in a winless run that appears to have no end in sight.
On Saturday 2 March they visited the home of Udinese on match day 27 of the Italian first division, and although they went ahead thanks to a goal from Loum Tchaouna, before the end of the first half the Ivorian Hassane Kamara netted an equaliser with an assist from former Tigres player, Florian Thauvin.
Week by week the atmosphere surrounding Ochoa’s team gets worse. Sitting on just 14 points and rock-bottom of the table, they are headed for relegation unless a simply miraculous vein of form comes from nowhere. Despite the dire situation, Guillermo Ochoa has in fact performed well, and was even included in the Serie A team of the week for the previous match day.
Salernitana’s upcoming fixture list could be a lifeline. They face Cagliari, in second-bottom place and also fighting to save themselves. After that, they will welcome Lecce, a mid-table team, although the situation could get complicated when they face Bologna, right now in fourth place looking to qualify for the Champions League next season.
Ochoa has conceded 54 goals in 27 games so far, meaning an average of exactly 2 goals per game. This is the joint-worst tally in the league, level with Sassuolo, who sit two places above them with 6 points more. With just 11 games left in the season, there is time to go but something needs to change at both ends of the pitch.
