Ochoa, Valdés out of Necaxa clash as América seek wins record
Guillermo Ochoa and Diego Valdés did not travel to Aguascalientes on Friday, ahead of Club América’s matchday-14 Apertura 2022 clash with Necaxa.
Guillermo Ochoa and Diego Valdés won’t be involved in Club América’s Liga MX match away to Necaxa on Saturday, as Las Águilas look to make club history and, in the process, return to the top of the Apertura 2022 standings.
ESPN reported on Friday that América head coach Fernando Ortíz had decided not to include goalkeeper Ochoa and midfielder Valdés in his travelling party for the trip to Aguascalientes.
Ochoa rested, Valdés carrying niggle
América will also be without Pedro Aquino and Alejandro Zendejas, who both serve suspensions for accumulated yellow cards.
Ortíz has reportedly opted to rest club captain Ochoa, and is understood to have been reluctant to risk Valdés as the Chilean has been struggling with a muscle issue this week.
Having remained in Mexico City, Valdés will focus on returning to full fitness ahead of América’s Clásico Nacional clash against Chivas Guadalajara on 17 September.
América seeking record ninth straight victory
After going through their paces at their Nido Águila training ground, América traveled to Aguascalientes on Friday, ahead of a matchday-14 clash that kicks off at 7pm local time (8pm ET) at the Estadio Victoria.
Currently on a run of eight Liga MX wins in a row, América will set a new club record for consecutive victories if they beat Necaxa. The capital club sit second in the table after being leapfrogged by Monterrey on Friday, Rayados earning a 1-0 triumph over Juárez courtesy of Jesús Gallardo’s goal.
