Official: Joao Rojas and Monterrey part ways
Rayados rescinded the contract of the Ecuadorian winger, who no longer was part of Fernando Ortiz’s plans.
Joao Rojas’ time with Rayados is over. The Liga MX club announced the departure of the Ecuadorian winger on social media on Friday evening. Rojas didn’t figure in Fernando Ortiz’s plans for the Clausura 2024 - the coach informed the player that he would be better off seeking a new club where he will get playing time.
Frozen out
With a brief message: “Good luck Joao in your future projects” Monterrey bid farewell to the 26-year-old who joined 18 months ago on a $2 million deal from Emelec. Rojas was left out of Ortiz’s squad for the first three games of the new campaign against Puebla, Santos Laguna and Querétaro.
It emerged that the board of directors and the Ecuadorian player reached a mutual agreement to terminate his contract. Rojas, who has a market value of just under $2 million is now free to join the club of his choice as a free agent.
During his time with Monterrey, he played three tournaments with the royals, making a total of 22 appearances, scoring two goals and ending with two assists in the domestic league. In international tournaments, he played seven games but without any goals or assists.
