The Spanish player learned of the news hours after being the central figure in the final against England, having scored the crucial goal that secured the World Cup victory for the national team. She had already been the hero in the semifinals against Sweden.

You are a part of Spanish football history,” read the statement the Federation posted on its social media platforms.
