Osasuna vs Barcelona summary; Raphinha winner, Piqué red, score, goals, highlights, LaLiga Santander 2022-23
There we have it. Over to you, Real Madrid. They host Cádiz on Thursday.
An un-Barcelona-like victory
I'd say that was a very un-Barcelona-like victory. It was ugly, it was scrappy. They went down to 10 men. It was the kind of game Osasuna wanted. But it's the Catalans who take home the three points.
FT Osasuna 1-2 Barcelona
It's all over! That's a huge win for Barcelona that moves them five points clear of Real Madrid at the top of LaLiga.
- David García headed Osasuna in front after six minutes
- Robert Lewandowski sent off for two yellow cards on the half-hour mark
- The hosts' early pressing made Barça really uncomfortable in the first half. Osasuna had some early chances - including García's goal - and limited space in their own half. Dembélé was the visitors' only real threat before the break
- Barcelona created very few chances throughoutbut were clinical in the second half
- Pedri equalised just after half-time with the first effort of the second half
- Raphinha won it with a looping header five minutes from time
- Osasuna were dangerous from cross balls in the second half and were arguably the more threatening side but Xavi's men were able to grind out a crucial victory
- Substitute Gerard Pique, who didn't come on, shown a red card at half-time after an argument with the officials
...no. Moncayola's cross drifts out of play.
Corner for Osasuna! Can they do it...
Osasuna are starting to build some pressure. It's another cross...it's cleared to Moncayola, who's strike looks goalbound but is deflected wide by a teammate.
Four minutes of added time
Another cross is aimed at Budimir, young Riad does just enough to put the Croat off and the ball goes out for a goal kick.
Barcelona debut
A first Barça appearance for defender Chadi Riad. He replaces Pedri.
One of those balls into the Barcelona box have just come in. Budimir heads wide.
1-2! Raphinha
Well, that's as simple as you like. Raphinha makes an out-to-in run from the right and is picked out by a superb De Jong pass. The Brazilian heads it over Aitor, who is in no-man's land and the ball nestles in the net.
Two out-and-out strikers on the field for Osasuna now in the shape of Budimir and Kike García. I suspect we'll see quite a few balls into the Barcelona box, if they get the chance.
Osasuna subs
Kike Barja and Budimir replace Chimy Ávila and Moi Gómez
Frenkie De Jong and Marcos Alonso the Barça central defensive pairing since Christensen went off.
Osasuna almost retake the lead! Vidal plays Peña in down the right and his cut-back is back-flicked goalwards by Kike. He can't quite get his angles right, however, and the ball hits the side-netting.
Barça sub
Fati and Raphinha on for Ferran and Dembélé
That's a decent chance for Kike but he can't keep his header down when he perhaps should've done better.
An incredibly dangerous ball into the box from the right from Dembélé. Aitor does well to beat the ball away before Alba gets to it.
Changes for both sides
Osasuna - Brasanac and Peña replace Aimar and Rubén García
Barcelona - Gavi replaces Christensen
I think that's the first shot on goal from Barça since Pedri scored. Dembélé sprints towards goal but slashes one well wide from the edge of the box.
A decent counterattacking chance for Osasuna there but Kike gets his pocket picked just as he's about to stride into the box.
It definitely looked as if Chimy meant that, as unorthodox as it was.
What an effort from Chimy! He picks the ball up out on the left, shapes to cross but whips one in which is going under Ter Stegen's bar until the German pushes it over.
There's been next to nothing in the way of goalmouth action since Pedri's goal. Literally nothing at the Barça end.
Chimy Ávily is a tricky customer so Balde decides he needs to get tight to him to stop him. He gets too tight this time, though. Yellow.
The most blatant yellow card I've ever seen for Moncayola. Balde goes on a superb driving run from right-back and is hauled down rugby-style by the Osasuna midfielder.
Almost a second for Osasuna! Chimy Ávila has moved to the left wing after the sub and puts in a dangerous cross which Aimar very nearly gets on the end of.
A very attacking change for Osasuna here. Striker Kike García replaces defensive midfielder Lucas Torro.
Plenty of possession for Barça despite them having a man fewer. But no more chances.
A bit more on the Piqué red. It doesn't look like the ref is saying "happy retirement", right enough.
Torro is next in the book for sticking an arm in Ferran's face, Lewandowski-style. Maybe not quite as bad.
Torro fired one well over the bar in the first half and he's just done the same again here. A decent opening, too.
Well, the first half couldn't have started any worse for Barça. The second half couldn't have started any better. Piqué's red aside.
Maybe Barça can turn this around! Pedri levels things up after Alba's left-wing cross was half-cleared out to him inside the area. Game well and truly on!
What a way to go...
News coming through that Gerard Piqué - of all people - was shown a red card at half-time by referee Gil Manzano. What a way to bow out...
Obviously something he said.
We're away again! Can Barça turn this around?
Tonight's other LaLiga games
Elche 1-2 Girona (FT)
Athletic Club 3-0 Real Valladolid (FT)
If Osasuna hold onto their victory, they'll move above Atletico Madrid, Real Betis and Real Sociedad into third place.
That's impressive.
El Sadar was made for nights like this.
Silly boy.
HT Osasuna 1-0 Barcelona
- David García heads Osasuna into early lead
- Robert Lewandowski sent off for two yellow cards
- The game has panned out the way Osasuna would've wanted. They've got in Barça's faces and made it really uncomfortable for their opponents. Their high pressing led to some early opportunities - and a goal - while they've kept things fairly tight in defence.
- Few opportunities for Barcelona so far, with the individual quality of Dembélé their biggest threat so far. They've been unable to play through their opponents and are likely to find it even more difficult playing with 10 men in the second half.
Juan Cruz chops Dembélé down as the Barça man races to the goal line. Yellow.
Four minutes of stoppage time.
Barça goal disallowed! Ferran has the ball in the net from Alba's cross but he moved too early and the goal is ruled out for offside.
Dembélé shot blocked! The Frenchman cut inside a couple of Osasuna players and lined one up but David García got in the way.
A decent chance for Ferran there! Not one that you'd expect - a header from Frenkie De Jong's corner at the back post - but he had a bit of time and space. He couldn't keep his header down though.
Lucas Torro tries his luck from 30, maybe 35, yards. Well over.
Good defending there from Balde. Ávila was looking to make space for a shot inside the box but the defender stood up to him really well.
This snap epitomises the first 40 minutes, I'd say.
Jordi Alba goes in the book for dissent. Osasuna have been putting themselves about but it's been totally above board.
Ferran looks to have gone in a central attacking position, with Pedri moving slightly to the left and Dembélé staying where he was on the right. Busquets and De Jong in the middle.
Again, you won't be surprised to hear that the red card has driven Osasuna on even more. They're fighting and scrapping for everything.
No VAR involvement for yellow cards, remember. So that was never coming into play.
Absolute madness from Lewandowski there. He was asking for that. He was looking at García rather than the ball the whole time and surely can't have forgotten he was already on a yellow card.
Lewandowski off
No. Way.
An early bath for Lewandowski. The Pole jumped into David García, leading with his elbow. Second yellow and a red.
Lewandowski effort saved! Better link-up play there from Dembélé and Lewy ends with the striker testing Aitor from 14 yards.Dembélé wanted it back and he's got a point, he was in a better position.
A spectacular overhead clearance from David García to clear the ball up the pitch. But that's twice in a matter of seconds Osasuna have had to resort to clearing their lines to nobody in particular. It'll just come back.
Just as I type that, right-back Alejandro Balde finds himself in the inside-right position and flashes a shot just wide from the edge of the box.
A bit too slow in posession from Barcelona so far, I'd say. Although Osasuna aren't giving them much room to work in.
Another venture into the Osasuna box, this time on the left. Good movement from Ferran gets him onto Alba's chipped pass but his floated cross is claimed by Aitor.
Better from Barça. Dembélé slips the ball through to Pedri in the box but the youngster uncharacteristically picks the wrong option and the chance has gone.
Side netting from Chimy! Busquets is having a nightmare so far, that's the third time he's lost the ball just outside his own box.
A long, hopeful ball from Alba up to Lewandowski runs through to Aitor. That sums up Barça's issues so far.
As you might expect, that early goal has caused Osasuna to press even more than they were doing in the first couple of minutes. They're not letting Barça build anything so far.
Lewandowski in the book. The Pole was rattled by getting harried off the ball.
On reflection, Marcos Alonso did seem to get a bit of a shove.
Still, the goal stands. Barça need to get on with it now.
Goal given! There were a bit of handbags going on in the box but nothing major, according to the officials.
Wait....there's a VAR check coming...
1-0! David García!
And from the resulting corner, David García heads Osasuna in front!
First chance for the hosts!
Moncayola's shot is deflected a yard or so wide! That all stemmed from Ávila putting Ter Stegen under pressure on the goal line. Classic Chimy.
A frantic opening couple of minutes, with Osasuna trying to get in Barça faces. Things have settled down a little, Barça moving the ball around harmlessly.
4-2-3-1 for Osasuna in the end, by the looks of it. Rubén García wide on the right, with Aitor playing centrally off Chimy Ávila.
Lovely bit of skill from Lewandowski in the opening seconds. A 'sombrero' the kids call it, I think.
Didn't go anywhere but it looked good.
And away we go! Osasuna get us underway
The teams are out, it's time...!
...after some team photos.
A cracking atmosphere at El Sadar, which was never in doubt. This place will be rocking for most of the night.
A nice light show at El Sadar before the teams come out. Just as well electricity is cheap these days.
The teams are in the tunnel. Almost time for battle...
And Osasuna will probably be looking to make it just that.
Is this 'stunning'? I'll leave that for you to decide...
10 minutes until kickoff
Have you got those drinks and snacks in yet? Cutting it fine, if not...
In case you missed Barcelona's last game, a 2-0 win against Almería, it was quite a big deal. A routine victory for Xavi's side but, more than that, a chance to say farewell to Barça greatest ever defenders in Piqué, who announced his retirement from the sport last week.
One last time...
It almost seems more fitting for Gerard Piqué not to play tonight.
Saturday was surely a more fitting way to bow out?
Previous meetings in Pamplona
Barcelona are unbeaten on their last six visits to El Sadar but they've dropped points on three of them, which they won't want to do tonight.
Going further back, there have been 44 meetings in Navarra: 12 wins for Osasuna, 15 draws and 17 victories for Barça.
A bit nippy tonight is, it, Pedri?
Is Aitor going to be in for a busy night tonight?
He'll hope not.
Tonight's other LaLiga games
Elche 1-2 Girona (FT)
Athletic Club 1-0 Real Valladolid (HT)
A win for Athletic moves them above Osasuna.
Osasuna also in fine form
It's perhaps a step too far to say that Osasuna have been one of this year's surprise packages but Jagoba Arrasate will be delighted with his team's start to the campaign. As things stand (more on that in a second), they currently sit in sixth spot, having started the season with four wins from the first five LaLiga fixtures and taken 10 points from the last 12 available.
This is going to be a really tough game for Barça.

Excellent Barça response to Clásico defeat
Xavi's men have responded excellently - in the league, at least - to the Cláisco defeat to Real Madrid in mid-October. Four wins in a row, 10 goals scored, none conceded.
And 11 wins and a draw from 13 games is pretty good going by anyone's standards.
A chance for Barcelona to move five points clear
Most talk about Barcelona's season has centred around their failure to get out of their Champions League group. Of course, for a club of Barça'a stature, that's unacceptable in isolation, never mind two years in a row.
Buuuuuut...a victory tonight would move them five points clear of Real Madrid (having played a game more) at the top of LaLIga, which seems mad considering the narratives surrounding both clubs this season.

And guess what? Barcelona are here too!
The game is on folks.
It feels almost obligatory these days to show the teams arriving at the ground.
Yes, Osasuna have turned up, which means the game should take place.
Four Osasuna changes
Right-back Ruben Peña, left-back Manu Sánchez and attackers Ante Budimir and Kike Barja all drop to the bench having started Osasuna 2-1 victory at Celta Vigo at the weekend. Tonight's game is a different challenge.
Osasuna starting XI
And here's how the hosts line-up. A nice video to make life difficult for us.
Something along these lines:
Osasuna XI: Aitor; Vidal, Unai García, David García, Cruz; Aimar Oroz, Torró, Rubén García, Moncayola, Moi Gómez; Ávila
Three Garcías in the line-up. If in doubt, it's a García.
Only one change in the Barça XI
I make that just the one change from the Barcelona team that defeated Almería 2-0 on Saturday. Christensen in for Piqué.
Left-back Balde starts at right-back. Left-back Alonso starts in central defence (we know why Piqué feels he should be playing...)
Barcelona starting XI - no Gerard Piqué!
I can confirm that Gerard Piqué does not, in fact start. Will he come off the bench? Have we seen the last of him as a (Barcelona) soccer player?
Barça XI: Ter Stegen; Balde, Christensen, Alonso, Alba; Pedri, Busquets, De Jong; Dembélé, Lewandowski, Ferran.
Will Piqué start and make his final ever appearance?
Just in case you've been living under a rock, you'll be aware that tonight's match could be Gerard Piqué's last ever as a Barcelona player and professional footballer.
If feels like there's much less hullabaloo surrounding this one than his final home game against Almería on Saturday, although there'll no doubt be plenty of time for reflection on his career in the coming days, weeks and indeed months.
Will Piqué start? If he does, he'll be doing it in this grey number.
The stage is set
Estadio El Sadar, one of the most raucous grounds in Spain when it gets going, for my money.
Will there be fireworks tonight? Let's hope so!
Before we get going, if you’re looking for a place where you can watch the game, then look no further!
Here’s all the info you need. Just make sure you keep this page open too….
Osasuna vs Barcelona (9.30pm Spanish time, 3.30pm ET)
Hello and thanks for joining me (Roddy) for live coverage of Tuesday’s LaLiga clash between Osasuna and Barcelona in Pamplona. Barcelona are having a right stinker of a season, aren’t they? A win tonight will move them five points clear at the top of LaLIga…
Seems mad, doesn’t it?
