Over 200 clubs goals for Chicharito

The Mexico international scored two goals but missed a late penalty in the 2-2 draw against Sporting Kansas City on Sunday.

El regreso de Chicharito con LA Galaxy se acerca

Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández had a bittersweet night in the Los Angeles Galaxy’s 2-2 draw against Sporting Kansas City on Sunday at Dignity Health Sports park. The Mexico international scored a brace and reached 201 career goals in club competitions, but missed a late penalty in stoppage time that could’ve given the Galaxy the three points.

“You know what, apart from that milestone and that number, what I am very grateful for is how this situation happens in my life and I take it in a moment where everything shall pass. I scored my 200th goal and my 201st, and then I missed my first panenka penalty,” said Hernández after the game.

“And I could have had a hat-trick but I scored a brace, and it’s like, that’s life. There are gray moments. That’s something very important for me to take, knowing my life has gray areas. I scored two, and I missed the most important play of the game, then we got a point, but it’s in our home so it’s not that great. There are gray areas, I think that’s a good way of saying it because I scored two goals. Without the other two goals, we couldn’t draw. Yeah, I am sorry, it’s a very huge and big responsibility but as well, there are no heroes here,” added the LA Galaxy captain.

The brace scored on Sunday marked Hernández’s seventh career multi-goal game for the LA Galaxy since joining in 2020. He has scored 59 goals with Manchester United, 39 with Bayern Leverkusen, 34 with the Galaxy, 29 with Chivas, 17 with Westham United, 11 with CD Tapatio, nine with Real Madrid and three with Sevilla.

The Galaxy are fighting to qualify to the playoffs

This was a setback for the Galaxy as they are now in eighth place with 11 wins, six draws and 11 defeats for 39 points. Currently, they are out of the playoff picture in the Western Conference, but they have two fewer games than Portland, with 42 points, and they will return back to action on 10 September to play on the road against Nashville.
