Pachuca and Toluca advance to Liga MX Apertura 2022 final
Pachuca and Toluca won their respective semi-finals against América and Monterrey.
Liga MX has its two finalists for the Apertura 2022: Pachuca and Toluca. Los Tuzos took full advantage of the lead they gained in the first leg to knock out Monterrey 6-2 on aggregate. The team coached by Guillermo Almada are returning to their second consecutive final. They now have the opportunity to win the title that eluded them in Clausura 2022, when they lost to Atlas. Pachuca will have to overcome Toluca, who have eliminated América to reach the final.

Pachuca knocked out the two teams from Nuevo León in the group stage. They advanced against Tigres thanks to their better position in the table in the quarter-finals and defeated Monterrey on aggregate in the semi-final. For the second consecutive tournament, Pachuca are in the final. Last season, they lost to Atlas, who went on to become two-time champions of Mexican football. This is the third time that Guillermo Almada will contest a title in Mexican football. He also lost the first of these, when in charge of Santos Laguna. The Uruguayan tactician hopes that it will be a case of third-time lucky.
Toluca have had a longer road to take. First, they eliminated FC Juárez in the playoffs. They then knocked out Santos Laguna by winning both quarter-final matches and have just beaten América in the semi-final with a 2-3 aggregate score. The Eagles came in as the overall leaders and the highest-scoring side of the campaign. Ignacio Ambriz’s team are looking to consolidate their position as the most successful team in the history of the playoffs.
