Parc des Princes to host 2024 Olympic Games finals
PSG’s stadium, with a capacity of 47,000, is the venue chosen by the French Football Federation for the Paris Olympic Games football final.
Parc des Princes, PSG’s stadium, will host the 2024 Paris Olympics football finals. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the French Football Federation announced that the stadium, located in Boulogne-Billancourt, has been chosen to stage both football finals - with the latter stages of the tournament to be played between 24 July and 9 August for the men’s event and from 25 July to 10 August for the women’s event.
It means that Stade de France in Saint-Denis, which is usually the stadium of choice for major football events in France or Paris, will ultimately not host the Games. The stadium, where France’s national team play their home games, was elected to host the 2022 Champions League final at short notice instead of Saint Petersburg. However, the day of the game did not run smoothly. There were incidents of fans being attacked, mugged and pepper-sprayed by police and kick-off was delayed for 30 minutes because fans could not get into the ground. The organisation led to complaints from both finalists, Real Madrid and Liverpool and prompted an independent inquiry by UEFA to uncover failings by authorities an police.
