The tensions between football club Paris Saint-Germain and the Paris City Council continue. Last week, Anne Hidalgo, mayor of Paris, acknowledged in an interview that the “Parc des Princes is not for sale,” and on Sunday it was the turn of David Belliard, deputy of the City Council, who gave an interview to RMC Sport in which he confirmed Hidalgo’s position regarding the sale of the stadium to PSG.

PSG and Paris conflict

“We are in a liars poker game. We will see what happens in the negotiations,” Belliard said. “I am not in favor of selling major assets to the private sector, and in particular to Qatar. The Parc des Princes is one of them.

“We need to participate in a certain number of prestigious assets. The Parc des Princes does not belong to Qatar, but to Parisians and, more broadly, to the French people. I want it to continue to be part of this common heritage.”

PSG, for its part, issued a statement last week in which it acknowledged that it was “disappointed by the City Council’s decision” and that they may be “forced to leave the Parc des Princes”. It was pointed out that they had invested more than 85 million euros (c.$85m) for its maintenance and that it had in mind “disbursing more money in the coming years”.

If the City Council and the club do not reach an agreement, PSG will most likely have to move, to the dismay of some.
