Veljko Paunovic and Liga MX giants Chivas have gone their separate ways. After much speculation suggesting an imminent exit, the Guadalajara based side have confirmed that the Serbian will leave the club.

During his time at the Estadio Akron, Paunovic recorded 18 wins, seven draws and nine losses in Liga MX regular season games steering Chivas to two successive Liguillas where the were beaten finalists in the Clausura 2023 and fell at the quarter final stage in the Apertura 2023.

The Serbian also struggled to deliver success on an international level with his team getting eliminated from the group stage of the Leagues Cup.

Chivas statement

The Guadalajara club issues a brief statement thanking the 46-year-old for his services.

Club Deportivo Guadalajara informs that as of today, by mutual agreement, Veljko Paunovic is no longer part of the team.

We are grateful for the professionalism that Pauno has shown during his time on the Red and White bench, during which time He helped the team maintain consistency in the National Championship, as Chivas qualified directly to the Liguilla in the two tournaments under his command and in the first of them played in the Final.

Likewise, we would like to acknowledge the work and dedication of the Serbian DT during his tenure, with special emphasis on the promotion of players from our Basic Forces, which was reflected in several debuts and his continuity with the First Team.

We wish Veljko Paunovic success in his future projects.

The new Chivas Technical Director will be determined in the short term.
