With ever increasing speculation linking Chivas coach Paunovic with a move to the head coach position with Spain’s UD Almeria, a social media post from the Serbian has raised eyebrows and a move to LaLiga may not be on the cards for the under fire coach with the struggling Liga MX side.

The Serbian is an infrequent user of his Instagram account but it was the social media platform where the 46-year-old decided to publish and enigmatic message which hints at him staying with the Akron Stadium side.

Paunovic posted: “I want to feel this bonding, excitement and passion between everyone again. Today is day 1 of our “revival”.

I’m with you, as always!

Chivas struggling as derby looms

On the field the ‘Sacred Flock’ have struggled in recent games and are currently on a run of just one win in seven Apertura 2023 games, leaving Los Rojiblancos down in eighth in the regular-season standings. Off the field, a scandal involving high profile players has rocked the club.

Alexis Vega and Cristian ‘Chicote’ Calderón were told they won’t play for Chivas Guadalajara again, after they were banished from Veljko Paunovic’s first-team squad for off-the-field indiscipline.

Together with B-team player Raúl Martínez, Vega and Calderón broke squad rules by reportedly sneaking women into the team hotel after Chivas’ 1-1 Liga MX draw away to Toluca last weekend.

Paunovic has seen the club back his drive to punish the players and many feel this support may be instrumental in his apparent change of heart.

Chivas face Atlas this weekend in the Clasico Tapatio and a positive reaction from his team may be the final element in seeing the Serbian stay in Mexico.
