Pedro Aquino bids América goodbye with a sad message of gratitude

Pedro Aquino completed his move to Santos Laguna on Saturday but the midfielder made showed his appreciation for his former club, América, before leaving. Aquino posted a farewell message on Instagram, accompanied by an image of himself celebrating a goal for the Azulcremas.

Aquino was keen to express his gratitude for everything that the Coapa club did for him during his time there, and regretted not being be able to win the championship with the Eagles.

“Life goes on... I would like to thank Club América for all these wonderful seasons. It’s a shame that I’m leaving sad without being able to fulfill my great dream of being crowned champion, but with the great satisfaction of having given everything for these colors,” he wrote.

A second paragraph was dedicated to his admiration and respect to all those who were involved in his time at El Nido, as well as to all Azulcrema fans for always being by his side.

“I sincerely say goodbye to so many good people I met, the people at the club, the great staff, the fans, my team mates and also, all the management. I am extremely grateful to have been part of each of you. A big hug. See you very soon on the pitch,” he concluded.

The Peru international played a total of 80 games with the Cremas where he won over fans with his performances in the Liga MX, as well as in international competitions such as the CONCACAF Champions League and the Leagues Cup.

The 28-year-old player has decided to stay on in Mexico, where he has been based since 2017 - first with Rayados, then BUAP Wolves before returning to Monterrey. He was sold to León in July 2018 and, from there, he traveled to the south of the Mexican capital, in 2021.

A native of Lima, Peru, Aquino signed for Santos Laguna on Saturday after passing a medical. He will start work this week, joining his new team mates for training under Pablo Repetto’s supervision.
