WORLD CUP 2022
Pelé, Mbappé and Lebron James among the superstars that support Cristiano Ronaldo
The 37-year-old confirmed that the 2022 FIFA World Cup was his last one with Portugal and he is ‘heartbroken’ for not winning the trophy.
Cristiano Ronaldo will be remembered as one of the best players in the history of the sport and the Portuguese forward joined the selected group that participated in five FIFA World Cups. The 37-year-old was, however, unable to help his team over the weekend in the 1-0 defeat to Morocco at the Al Thumama stadium in the quarter-final fixture.
The Portuguese superstar walked off in tears to the locker room following the defeat against the Atlas Lions because he knew that this was his ‘last dance.’ A few days after an early World Cup exit, Cristiano Ronaldo confirmed that the tournament at Qatar was his last one with Portugal and his dream of lifting the trophy will never come true.
Other athletes react to Ronaldo’s message
It comes to no surprise that the most-followed person on Instagram, with 508 million behind him, received support from other athletes and legends in sport including Pelé, Kylian Mbappé and NBA superstar Lebron James. Ronaldo is taking some time to think about the next move in his career as he parted ways with Manchester United prior to the start of the World Cup.
Pelé, who is hospitalized, thanked Ronaldo for making everyone smile and even called him a friend. While Mbappé and Marcus Rashford labeled the Portuguese ace as the ‘GOAT.’ The Los Angeles Lakers player, Lebron James, called Ronaldo a Legend for what he did for Portugal.
