Update:

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola offered a typically cryptic response when asked about growing speculation surrounding Rodri Hernández and reported interest from Real Madrid.

Guardiola plays down transfer talk

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup quarterfinal against Liverpool, Guardiola was asked about renewed talk linking Rodri with a potential move away from the Etihad Stadium.

He did not appear concerned, instead offering a relaxed yet cryptic response.

Manchester City are reportedly working to secure Rodri on a new contract as they look to ward off any potential interest from the Spanish giants.

Context: the Enzo Fernández example

The situation comes after Chelsea’s Enzo Fernández was punished by the London club for seemingly issuing a come-and-get-me plea to Real Madrid during the March international break, a scenario City will be keen to avoid as speculation builds around Rodri.

Rodri’s comments add background noise

The speculation comes after Rodri spoke on Spanish radio station Onda Cero, saying he would “obviously like to return” to Spain and noting that “you can’t turn down the best clubs in the world” when discussing his past with Atlético Madrid and a possible future with their city rivals.
