Miralem Pjanic was the only absentee from Tuesday’s training session ahead of Barcelona’s Champions League opener on Wednesday.

The Bosnian international had the club’s permission to miss the session as he is on the verge of completing his transfer to Sharjah FC in the United Arab Emirates.

Pjanic on the move

The official fee of the operation has not yet been revealed, but there is talk of Barcelona possibly receiving 3 million euros for the transfer of the experienced midfielder. Sharjah are offering him a three-year contract, divided into two seasons plus an additional one.

If the deal goes through, Barcelona would free up enough money to make Gavi’s renewal official and modify his current salary to bring him within the first-team salary scale.

The club see Frenkie de Jong as the ideal candidate to replace Sergio Busquets in the defensive pivot, especially after Nico’s loan move to Valencia and the imminent departure of Pjanic.

Tuesday’s morning session included Eric García as well as the club’s two new signings, Héctor Bellerín and Marcos Alonso.

Barcelona changes

On Wednesday, against Viktoria Plzen, Xavi is expected to make changes. Christensen, De Jong and Ferran Torres are likely to be included in the starting eleven to rest Eric, Gavi and Dembélé, among others.
