Going into El Clásico at Camp Nou this weekend, Carlo Ancelotti has no new absentees and will be able to count on almost his entire squad as they look to beat league leaders Barcelona and get back on track in LaLiga. David Alaba didn’t train with the Madrid squad despite the fact that he is already completed his recovery but will be called up for international duty with Austria during the upcoming international break.

Álvaro Rodríguez is not in the matchday squad either. The Uruguay U20 striker is serving a ban after picking up his fifth yellow card for the Real Madrid Castilla. The club appealed the decision but to no avail. Karim Benzema’s current backup will therefore not be in Barcelona.

Ancelotti will have Ferland Mendy, who has already returned from his muscular problems, although it is likely that he will start the game on the bench and that Madrid’s left-back will be Nacho. The Frenchman is still low on match fitness and to expose him in a game of this magnitude after almost two months out of action would be risky. The rest of the backline will be made up of Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao and Antonio Rüdiger.

Questions in Madrid’s midfield

In midfield, the question remains as to what Ancelotti will do with Aurélien Tchouaméni. Eduardo Camavinga was the pivot against Liverpool at the expense of the former Monaco man. Only one of them is expected to line up in midfield alongside Luka Modric and Toni Kroos. Benzema, Vinícius and Fede Valverde are likely to be the front three.
