With the first trophy of what could be a historic season already in the bag, Real Madrid begin the defence of their LaLiga title at Mallorca with the match set to be Kylian Mbappé's first game in the domestic Spanish championship. The French star made his debut as a Madrid player with a goal in the European Super Cup as part of a 2-0 over Atalanta in Warsaw midweek.

It will be a long season, in which Madrid could play over 70 games and squad rotation will be a regular feature in Ancelotti’s lineups. The coach himself admitted on the eve of the Mallorca match that, given the saturation of the calendar, this season he is considering giving his players individual mini-holidays in the middle of the competition.

Madrid open their campaign at Son Moix with recent trips to Palma being a mixed bag with two wins and two defeats in their past four visits to Mallorca. Ancelotti is expected to field the same players who started the Super Cup final in Warsaw with Mbappe, Rodrygo and Vinicius set to lead the attack.

Possible Real Madrid starting XI against Mallorca

Ancelotti appears set to start the game against Mallorca with: Courtois; Carvajal, Miliato, Rüdiger, Mendy; Valverde, Tchouameni, Bellingham; Rodrygo, Mbappé and Vinicius. The Italian coach is taking 22 players to the island and the following will be on the bench: Lunin, Fran González; Lucas Vázquez, Vallejo, Jacobo Ramón, Fran García, Modric, Ceballos, Arda Güler, Endrick and Brahim.

Real Madrid’s absentees

‘Los Blancos’ only have two casualties for the start of the league season in Camavinga and David Alaba. The Frenchman will be out for six or seven weeks due to a sprained internal collateral ligament in his left knee that occurred after a stamp by Tchouameni in training prior to the match against Atalanta. The Austrian is in the final phase of recovery following the rupture of his anterior cruciate ligament that he suffered in December 2023.
