Potro Gutiérrez sacked as coach of Cruz Azul
Cruz Azul are one of the three teams with the worst record in the Clausura 2023.
Cruz Azul have relieved head coach Raúl ‘Potro’ Gutiérrez of his duties as coach of the club following a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Toluca, who yesterday celebrated their 106 years of history. The match was highly charged because of the situation at the capital club and goalkeeper José de Jesús Corona was sent off as a brawl broke out.
Cruz Azul are one of the three teams with the worst record in the current Clausura 2023, along with Querétaro and Mazatlán. None of the three sides have won a single match in the six games played so far.
Things didn’t start well as the club failed to sign players including Luis Suárez, Enner Valencia and Radamel Falcao in the off-season. Then there was the injury to player Carlos Vargas, who was ruled out for the season just 15 minutes into his debut with the team.
Due to the poor start to the 2023 campaign, the board have finally taken the decision to sack Gutiérrez and will now appoint a new coach to get La ‘Máquina Celeste’ back on track.
