The Premier League has confirmed that all of its weekend fixtures have been called off following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Premier League postponed to honour Queen’s “extraordinary life”

“At a meeting this morning, Premier League clubs paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II,” said a statement issued on Friday.

“To honour her extraordinary life and contribution to the nation, and as a mark of respect, this weekend’s Premier League match round will be postponed, including Monday evening’s game.

“Further updates regarding Premier League fixtures during the period of mourning will be provided in due course.”

The English Football League and England’s Women’s Super League have joined the Premier League in postponing their games this weekend, while soccer has also been suspended in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Postponed Premier League fixtures:

  • Fulham vs Chelsea
  • Bournemouth vs Brighton
  • Leicester vs Aston Villa
  • Liverpool vs Wolves
  • Southampton vs Brentford
  • Manchester City vs Tottenham
  • Arsenal vs Everton
  • West Ham vs Newcastle United
  • Crystal Palace vs Manchester United
  • Leeds vs Nottingham Forest

Postponements “at discretion of individual organisations”

The raft of soccer postponements across the UK comes despite there being no obligation to call off sports events during the country’s official mourning period, which is to last until seven days after the Queen’s funeral.

Any decision on cancelling sport “is at the discretion of individual organisations”, according to official guidance published by the British government.

Queen Elizabeth, the longest-serving monarch in UK history, died at Balmoral at the age of 96 on Thursday. She had reigned since 1952.
