It seems as though Edson Álvarez is destined to call the Premier League his home at some point in the future. Newcastle United, one of the star performers in England’s top division this season, are preparing an offer to contract the player in the next transfer window.

According to information from Ekrem Konour and confirmed by Kery News, the English side have the Mexican midfielder high on their list of targets for the summer. Ajax, however, are in a strong position: they know that Álvarez is one of their pillars and will not let the player leave easily.

Which other clubs are interested in Álvarez?

As well as interest from England’s north, Chelsea are also circling the player, despite Ajax already rejecting a €40 million offer from The Blues during the winter market. Álvarez is said to be worth around €35 million, which puts him towards the top of the list of Ajax players in terms of valuation.

It’s worth remembering that, in 2019, Ajax put €15 million on the table for Club América to sweep up in exchange for the player: in less than four years, that fee could be four times what the Dutch club paid. In fact, they renewed his contract in 2021 and he is tied to the club until 2025, which means that if he is to leave this summer, it would take a considerable fee.
